10 health insurance companies are expected to offer health insurance plans in federally run Florida health insurance exchange, according to recent filings done at Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. Florida has opt to not establish a state-run health insurance exchange, so federal govt is going to manage the enrollment for Floridians. The federal exchange is going to open on Oct 1st of this year, which will allow Floridians to purchase health insurance plans.
The list of companies has not been released by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) nor the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) which is mandated to run the federal exchange and it is also not clear whether all insurance companies will receive federal approval to offer health insurance plans in Florida.
Greg Mellowe, from consumer advocacy group Florida CHAIN, was able to find the list by searching the OIR database. Following are the list of companies which have indicated interest in offering health insurance plans in Florida health insurance exchange:
